Shoot and Edit: Thanksgiving edit

I ran through this edit pretty quickly last night with the help of a couple of actions...
  • Ashley's Nice & Easy action - adjusted layers to taste;
  • HDR action minus the HDR_for_Dummies2 portion - I only used the shadow portions, as I didn't like what the other part did to the photo;
  • added a new Hue/Saturation layer and adjusted;
  • rotated the image (not too unusual for me - my shot was crooked! Sure the subjects were straight, but we were on an incline and it was pretty obvious distraction to me to see the white house in the background tilted.) and cropped.

Shoot and Edit: Thanksgiving

We spent our Thanksgiving holiday in Virginia visiting my mother, stepfather and brother. One of Dylan's favorite pastimes was playing with their dog, Tia. The two of them were so funny and completely wore each other out daily. I caught this moment of pause in their outdoor play of chasing and sticks on Saturday morning.

Lists & Coupons

I learned the value of coupon shopping from my mom. Although, admittedly, I found them somewhat annoying to deal with until I had to pay my own bills. Funny how that works. ;)

These days I organize my coupons in a big 3-ring binder with a zipper closure. It makes it easy for me to flip through and find the coupon I want. I try to pull most before we head out to the store & stick them in a plastic pencil pocket in the front. Others I will grab as I need while we shop.

Realizing I will soon be juggling a baby in a carrier seat along, I don't want to even pretend to try and carry the binder with me on every grocery trip. Instead, I went back to a craft project I bookmarked months ago on Elizabeth's Covered in Crafts blog - an altered folder organizer. It struck me as a fun craft project and simple way to store my shopping list & coupons for a specific trip that I could easily just drop into my purse or the diaper bag.

Here's my completed project:

And the inside:

Supplies: manila file folder; Bazzill (white), Stampin' Up (green) and the Paper Company (blue) cardstock; TaDa patterned papers; QuicKutz Moxie font; American Crafts ribbon; Xyron adhesive and laminate/adhesive cartridges.

hello feet

A couple of years ago, I saw a fun pregnancy layout on Two Peas called Yoo Hoo Feet. I bookmarked the page for future reference and so glad I did. Since loosing sight of my own feet around 28 weeks, I thought it would be fun to create my own page. Yesterday I had Trent take a photo of me tipping over to catch a glimpse of my feet. I lifted the page design from my friend Nylene's 8 layout.

Thursday Thirteen #4: Scrapbooking Favorites

Thirteen of my scrapbooking favorites right now:
  1. Making Memories tiny alpha letter stickers - I seem to use these quite frequently on layouts and cards
  2. Stampin' Up Whisper White ink pad
  3. Sketches & Challenges - excellent for reviving that mojo when I want to scrap, but am struggling with what direction to take.
  4. StazOn black ink pad
  5. We R Memory Keepers 12x12 photo sleeve pages - these are making it so easy for me to quickly add my Project 365 photos to my album.
  6. Punches - especially corner rounder and border punches
  7. Adobe Photoshop
  8. Signo Uniball pens - white & silver
  9. Chipboard
  10. Tombow Mono Adhesive - my favorite adhesive for years. I grab a refill every time I'm at a craft store to make sure to have plenty on hand.
  11. Scallops
  12. Collages - whether cutting & piecing by hand or arranging on the computer & then printing, I'm loving this quick and easy way to add a lot of photos to a layout without the page seeming too busy.
  13. American Crafts 3-ring albums - how did I ever survive without these? They make it so easy to add pages and mix & match sizes.

Stampin' Up Party

I had a great time yesterday attending a Stampin' Up party. My neighbor's mother is a demonstrator and always has the cutest cards for us to create. These are the three I made:

PhotoHunt: Warm

Searching for a photo for this week's PhotoHunt theme, I came across one my mom took in January 2008 of my sister's cat & dog curled up in my brother's lap. They loved to snuggle up together. :)

Joe's Place

Last May, my friend, Kim, and I got together for a belated Christmas celebration. We had dinner at a restaurant downtown called Joe's Place which sadly closed it's doors last week. I guess I wasn't completely surprised. As you can tell from the photos - the restaurant was nearly empty. Only one other small party came in while we were there. Nonetheless, it was a shame to loose this special Raleigh spot.

Supplies: miscellaneous red cardstock; We R Memory Keepers patterned paper; black stamp ink; Fontwerks label sticker; Martha Stewart Crafts sepia pen; Stampin' Up black marker; Making Memories letter stickers

Scrappy Fun

This past Saturday I enjoyed meeting my Two Peas friend, Lori, and spending the day scrapping at her house. We had so much fun! I'm already looking forward to our next get together. :)

One of the pages I completed was this cute one of my sister's dachshund, Wrigley. She is just too adorable all strapped into her seat ready to hit the road:

Supplies: Making Memories patterned paper, brads, date stamp, and felt letter stickers; miscellaneous cardstock; black stamp pad; QuicKutz metro font & tab die.
