Words to Live By

A counselor at summer camp when I was a teenager hung these words on each girl's locker in our cabin. I've kept my copy in a safe place all these years and thought it was a good fit for Kim's Words to Live By circle journal.

This particular circle journal was bittersweet to work on as it marks the end. I shipped it to Kim on Monday and found my own on my doorstep Wednesday afternoon. I haven't opened the box to mine yet. Instead I placed it under our Christmas tree to enjoy on Christmas Day - although it is quite tempting to look! :)

Supplies: Rose Moka patterned paper; Bazzill white cardstock; EK Success border punch; staples; unknown flower; Autumn Leaves button; Making Memories stitches; Micron black pen; poem author unknown.

Optimistic

This month I had Monica's My Imaginary Friends circle journal. She asked us to each create a 2-page layout about ourselves sharing photos of our family & pets and answering the question "What is just one word that describes you?" After thinking a bit, I decided on "optimistic" as I think it fits my personality perfectly. I've always been a happy, glass half-full person and believe there is a positive in every situation.

Supplies: Bazzill (purple) and miscellaneous (cream) cardstock; Making Memories patterned paper; QuicKutz Sunshine font, tab & circle dies; Fiskars and EK Success border punches; black stamp ink; Micron black pen.

Lucky

The last two circle journals I managed to complete before Dylan's birth thanks to help from Diana who has them before me. She was so sweet to finish and ship them to me early so I wouldn't have to worry about that one extra project while adjusting to life with a newborn. Now we're back on track and I was excited to find the next circle journal on my doorstep a couple of weeks ago - Lori's Favorite Song Lyrics.

There are moments throughout my life where a certain song stands out for one reason or another. Perhaps it was playing in the background during a memorable time or it was a favorite at one point where I sang it over and over until a new song grabbed my attention. The song that immediately jumped into my head for this project is a newer favorite - Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Calliet. The first time I heard it, Trent played the song for me and the chorus line "I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend" stood out to me as it was, and is, exactly how I feel. Very lucky indeed to not only be in love with, but married to and sharing a life with my best friend...

Tucked into the cd sleeve is a photo of Trent, Dylan and me:

Betcha Didn't Know

Yesterday I received Pat's circle journal, Betcha Didn't Know, in the mail. She asked us to share at least 5 things about ourselves. I started on my list a week ago thinking it might take a while, but once I got going, I ended up with a list of 17 things!

Here are my pages:

Dinner with Friends

This month I had Theresa's circle journal - Dinner with Friends. I decided to share the crock pot spaghetti & meatballs recipe I came up with last weekend. I wrote the recipe onto a photo card, laminated it and inserted it into a pocket on the second page so it can easily be pulled out to make.

The Making Memories Chloe's Closet line worked perfectly with the colors in my photo and, along with the ribbon & thread on page 2, enabled me to meet the requirements of Jan's "Open that Package" challenge at Scrappin' Mojo. The other inspirations for my design were the Two Peas May Super Sketches class and the Two Peas weekly challenge to stack the title.

Supplies: Making Memories patterned paper, brads, snap, tiny alpha stickers, paper piercer & stitches; Martha Stewart Crafts label sticker; Fontwerks & Daisy Hill alpha stamps; Staz-On black stamp pad; QuicKutz tab die; miscellaneous cardstock; Urban Lily photo card; American Crafts ribbon; Micron black pen; Xyron 510 and laminating cartridge.

Fantasy Man

The latest circle journal is Linda's "Who's Your Secret Fantasy?" When we started our group last fall, I made a list of everyone's theme and have struggled with this one ever since I first heard it. I can't really say I have a fantasy man. Yesterday, I had to complete my pages as it's time to mail the circle journals again and while trying to decide what to do, I glanced up at the wall at a graphic collage my college friend, Kim, made years ago of Cal Ripken, Jr. Hence the inspiration for my page. A good choice as I find his commitment to his team, his family and his community inspiring.

Supplies: Paper Company cardstock; Scenic Route & October Afternoon patterned papers; Making Memories grommet, rub-on, brad, and spiral journaling paper; Basic Grey chipboard letters; 7gypsies photo turn; Micron black pen.

Saturday Breakfast

Over the weekend I worked on pages for the latest circle journal. Tammy's theme is "Around the Dinner Table." I set up the camera on a tripod and used the timer setting to get a photo of Trent & me at our table for breakfast Saturday morning. One of our favorite breakfast meals is the French Toast recipe from the Deceptively Delicious cookbook.

Supplies:
Bazzill cardstock; My Mind's Eye and We R Memory Keepers patterned papers; QuicKutz metro & sunshine fonts; Fiskars threading water punch; Making Memories snaps & wordfetti stickers (not visible); Micron pens; black stamp ink; vellum; Stylus BT and Arial fonts. Inspired by Jan's Calendar Girls challenge to use a black background and by Sketch #6 at Pink Sketches Blog.

Then & Now

I actually finished one of the circle journals early! Melanie's theme is "Then & Now." I found a fun photo of myself in the early 80's posing with Scooby Doo at Carowinds and paired it with a photo of Trent & me with Mike and Sully at Walt Disney World last month. On each side I listed similarities and differences between myself as a child and as an adult. I stamped the words "then" and "now" using Making Memories foam stamps and a teal Sharpie marker.

Supplies: Miscellaneous black cardstock; Uniball Signo white pen; Bazzill edged cardstock; Making Memories foam stamps; Sharpie marker. Inspired by Dec 24th of dw2008.

Purging & Wrapping

Yesterday we did some much needed purging and filled 2 big boxes for Goodwill and 1 smaller box for electronic recycling. After dropping those off, we returned home and finally decorated our Christmas tree. It's only been in our living room for a week. ;)

Today after church I need to complete my pages for the latest circle journal so I can mail it out tomorrow. Then wrap and box a few gifts that also need shipping. I think Christmas is sneaking up on me this year. I'm *almost* ready.
