December Daily 2013: In Progress

Three years ago I completed my first December Daily album. The next two Christmases included a lot of tears and, honestly, I struggled to find the heart to complete them. I have several pages done in each and might someday, but not now. I did manage to make a book last year about our elf's adventures. Dylan loved that. Still does.

This year, I was determined that December would be better and we'd have a completed album. Well, it had it's bumps too (really, when doesn't life have a few downs mixed in?) but I'm focusing hard on all the highlights and making strides in finishing this album. I'm about halfway done with a third of the pages completed and the rest in progress.

I'm making the album entirely digital again with plans to print it as a Shutterfly photo book. Here's a peek at a few of the completed pages.

Did you make (or are still working on) a December Daily album this year? I'd love to see. Feel free to share a link in the comments.

December Daily: days 1 - 3

A small glimpse of the first three days of our December:

How has your month started?

Holiday Express

A month or so ago Trent purchased tickets for the Holiday Express at Pullen Park. Our first time going and we all enjoyed it. Dylan participated in several crafts (his ornament received a spot on the tree the moment we got home!), we rode the train, saw Santa (Dylan was so excited until one of the kids in front of us screamed while his mom forced him to sit for a photo - then he was terrified), we watched part of the Grinch on a big screen, and looked at the lights.

The photos barely give a glimpse into the fun. This is a definitely family tradition for years to come.

Friday Freebie: Santa Photo

Each year we've managed to join our playgroup for a photo with Santa. This year we had 4 of the 6 moms & kids and, once again, the boys didn't want to be "alone" with the man in red. Forget how excited they were moments before. ;)

Although Dylan looks less than pleased in the photo, it's a favorite of his. Every time he sees the photo, he grins and exclaims "Santa!" Then names all of his friends. Maybe next year the boys will brave the photo without their moms? Maybe.

Supplies: Santa Photo template; Merry Little Christmas mini kit and paper set 3 by Erica Coombs; Messy Cursive - Holiday word art by Robyn Meierotto; The Basics - Patterned Brads by Sande Krieger; Century Gothic font.

Now the fun part ... I'm sharing the template I created for this layout with my readers! It contains 10 layers. The large photo mask on left is sized to fit 5x7 Santa photos. Use the 3 smaller masks for photos or papers. The template free for personal use only.

Hope your holiday season is off to as fun of a start as ours is. Enjoy!

December Daily - 7th

Slowly getting back into creating pages for our December Daily album (albeit out of order). The highlight of December 7th was getting together with our playgroup - we decorated gingerbread men and played.

December Daily 2011

I really love the December Daily album I created last year. It ran from the start of our Christmas festivities on Nov 30th (visiting Santa) to Jan 1st (final celebration with family). The entire album was digital and I had it printed as a Shutterfly book. This year, my goal was to do the same.

Here are the first three pages from my 2011 album starting again on Nov 30th with our visit to Santa ...

With other things (making Christmas gifts, working on Dylan's stocking, etc) eating up my time during the month, I pushed off further work on the pages until after Christmas. Now I haven't decided when I will complete the album. At the moment, the final week of December is still just a bit too raw. Losing Chester on Christmas Eve took the magic out of finishing this album. I need some time to decide how to properly mark the day and yet remember him too. Then hopefully I can add the 2011 book to our collection.

December Daily 2010: Final Pages

The final pages in our December Daily album.  I decided to continue it through January 1st since that was the last day of our Christmas celebrations with family ...

And I created a page for November 30th to start the album since that marked the start of our Christmas (how could I leave out that memorable moment with Santa?) ...

All that is left is to create the title page and cover then have it printed at Shutterfly!

December Daily 2010: Days 6-10

Continuing with my December Daily album, I'm trying to let each day tell its story.  I got a bit stumped on Day 6 as I only took a few photos and they weren't very exciting plus it was a bit of a boring day (errands, groceries).  Instead, I did a full page on our holiday decorations and made note that we choose not to have a tree this year.  Two details that I wanted in the album as they help tell the overall story of our month.  Once I let go of the notion of having something special about each particular day and completed that page, the rest started coming together much quicker.  It's against my instincts to "let loose" like that but I am liking the results - I need to remember to relax and enjoy the process of scrapping more!

December Daily 2010: Days 1-5

I decided very last minute (as in on Dec 1st!) that I would put together a December Daily album this year.  Since I didn't prepare ahead of time and knew it would be a busy month, I simply focused on taking photos and jotting a few notes about each day.  After we returned from our Christmas trip, I started putting together a digital 8x8 album.  I plan to have it printed to a Shutterfly book when it's complete.  I'm using templates & red overlays by Ali Edwards and a background paper by Miss Mint to maintain a bit of consistency in the pages - otherwise, it's however I feel inspired so each page is a bit different.  Here are the first 5 days:
