Sorry
My sister-in-law opening my gift during her bridal shower in June 2006. We had only seen each other on a few occasions prior to the shower and I struggled searching for the "right" gift. While Trent & I were at Target, one item on their registry jumped out at us - the board game Sorry. We couldn't resist purchasing it for his brother's fiancé. Thankfully, Stephanie has the same sense of humor as we do and had a good laugh as she opened it. :)

Just Hanging Out
More "found" photos that were buried in my computer files. This particular Saturday in 2002 my sister, brother & I spent some time together just hanging out. It was a rare (and now rarer) opportunity for the 3 of us to be in the same place at once. Glad to get these photos and my memories from the day into a layout. Disney on Ice: The Incredibles
As part of my current cleaning faze, I purchased new photo management software over the weekend to better organize my photos and digital scrapbooking elements. I need a quicker way to locate what I have and after reading many positive comments online about ACDSee's software, I thought I would give it a try. It's nice to be able to tag the different elements so I can search a specific type versus going through each kit in my computer folders.
While tagging files in the program, I began looking through some older photos and found a grouping from the 2005 Disney on Ice show we attended. Many of them are unfortunately blurry but somewhat savable when cropped to a smaller size. I used a template by Kate Teague to quickly arrange the photos and complete the page:

Heart Card
I've been on a bizarre cleaning / reorganizing streak over the past week and that continued into yesterday. The scrap room had collected a lot of extras and I've been working to clean those out. So nice to free us from extra stuff.
Last night I spent a few minutes playing and put together this quick card:

Festival of the Lion King

Brookgreen Gardens
I have so many photos from our visit to Brookgreen Gardens in November 2004 that I have struggled to create a layout until recently. Using a couple of Quick Collage templates from Scrapbooks Etc, I managed to include 13 photos on two 12x12 pages:

NC State Fair
Yesterday we went to the North Carolina State Fair.
We spent a couple of hours wandering around the grounds looking at the games and rides (yes, just looking - I refuse to ride something put together in a matter of hours).
Checking out the exhibitions. (How cute is this little guy on top of a hay pile having lunch.)
And enjoying a chuckle at the ever increasing amount of deep fried food options available (this year's most "famous" new additions being mac & cheese and pecan pie. Seriously. I couldn't make that up).
We even discovered you could buy various veggies such as broccoli deep fried (although, one might question how healthy they are after you deep fry them and dip them in ranch dressing. Just saying).
Found this poor fellow near the Expo Center where cows were being auctioned off. (Kind of ironic, don't you think?)
And we ended our visit touring my favorite section - the flower and garden show. It's like entering a whole new world as you wander the wooded paths between the exhibits.
All in all, we had a good time and look forward to next year.

Date Nut Balls

Enjoying a Long Weekend
We've had a beautiful couple of days here. Sun shining and warm temps. Yesterday we took advantage of the weather and drove to Asheboro to visit the NC Zoo. Our last trip to the zoo in March was shortened due to cold and rain. Yesterday was the complete opposite which allowed us to spend 5 hours roaming the trails and viewing all of the exhibits.
The baboons had fun entertaining us.
Lunch time for the lions. Not sure what they were munching on, but it was very crunchy.
Some of the other visitors said this gorilla was taking a nap. Personally, I think he was practicing his yoga.
The polar bear though was definitely taking a nice siesta.
After completing the full 5 mile trek around the zoo, we headed north to visit my dad for a belated birthday celebration. We had a delicious dinner at a local Thai restaurant and spent time catching up.
Today, Trent & I had already planned a day of vacation. It's been nice to have a full, uncommitted day around the house. We ran a couple of errands. I picked up a new toy (thanks, Mom!) that I'm slowly learning to use. I made 5 packs of Cat Squares and 2 new t-shirt bags for my etsy shop. Trent pulled down the Halloween decorations and started putting them up. And somewhere in there we've relaxed a bit. ;)

Fall Bazaar
The Bazaar was wonderful! We had a great turnout. I'm not sure the grand total of the entire event, but the silent auction came in just over $2800. Very happy about that. Trent & I did a little shopping. Mostly delicious baked goods - nothing can compete with homemade cookies and preserves.

Busy Day
Yesterday I came home to find my recent order from Two Peas had arrived:
I had planned to play a little in my scrap room last night, but I was so wiped out from work & bazaar set-up, that I went to bed at 8! It was nice to get that extra sleep though. I'll need the energy today as I plan to be at the bazaar the entire time (8-2). We were very blessed and had over 100 items donated to the silent auction. The room is also filled with many craft & food items. Now all we need is a good turnout of shoppers. :)

Paisley Birthday Card

six secrets
Linda tagged me for "six secrets" - I share six secrets about me and then tag 5 other bloggers. This is far more challenging than it seemed. Do I even have six secrets? Perhaps six things you might not know about me?
#1 I never make my bed at home. Neither of us do. I read a news article once about how it's better for folks with asthma to not make their bed so it will air & dry out. Making it helps trap in moisture & humidity which provides a perfect environment for dust mites to increase. Truth or fiction - it's a great excuse to skip that chore. ;)
#2 I have no idea the last time I read a book. I've read parts of a few, but haven't finished them. Too many other things to do than sit still long enough.
#3 I bribe myself to get on the treadmill with gossip magazines.
#4 During college, one of my friends and I decided to color our hair. We were *just* going add a little bit of reddish highlights. A couple of beers later and hair coloring left on too long, we were both a lovely shade of magenta the next day. It wasn't too bad indoors, but oh goodness, when the sun hit.... LOL
#5 Growing up I had the terrible habit of biting my nails. I wasn't able to quit until about 6 years ago.
#6 I watch Guiding Light on cbs.com every weekday while eating lunch at work - frees me up from time on the couch at home later and is a nice mid-day distraction.

Sunday
Yesterday was a wonderful, but busy day. I filled in teaching the preschool Sunday school class. Having forgotten to stop by earlier in the week and pick up a copy of the lesson plan, I arrived a few minutes early to look it over and couldn't find it. The plans for the entire month of October were missing. I did find some story & coloring booklets left from the spring. One had enough copies so I grabbed those. The kids are ages 3-5 so any Bible story learned is ok, right? Well, the ones I found were about a shipwreck and the coloring page illustrated the wreck with men in the water and two men reaching shore. And the story talked about them praying to God and swimming to safety on a nearby island.
Well, leave it the imaginations of a few boys to see people in the water drowning! Not swimming. I kept explaining, that, no, they prayed to God for help and were swimming to safety. Nope. The boys insisted that the men on their pictures drowned. Oops. Maybe that wasn't the best Bible lesson to choose.
In church, we had a visiting group of Congolese musicians as part of "World Communion" Sunday. They were wonderful. Singing and playing several instruments including bongos. I was swaying in my seat enjoying the songs.
After the service, we stayed around for a quick lunch and to help with setup for the church bazaar next Saturday. It's an annual event that I always look forward to. Trent assisted with the physical setup - moving tables & bookcases where they were needed. I co-chair the silent auction with another member. The two of us and Trent's cousin, Laura, worked on sorting through the donations and putting together gift baskets. Each year we stress a bit wondering if we will have enough and each year we are amazed at the generous outpouring of donations. This year looks to be the same. Already we have lots and lots of goodies for the silent auction. I'll be at church 2 more days this week finishing the prep work and then all day Saturday for the big event. But it's so well worth it. :)

South Carolina Aquarium
Friday afternoon while cleaning up in my scraproom, I came across a stack of photos from our anniversary trip to Charleston, SC, in 2006. Only a couple had been scrapped and the big grid of photos on the layout for Oct 1st in the dw2008 calendar gave me the perfect inspiration to get those from the SC Aquarium done.

Way to Go card
I didn't have a lot of time in my scrap room last night due to a meeting. Walking in I glanced down and noticed the Love, Elsie charms sitting out still from creating the For You card last week. I had been thinking of using the star on a card with perhaps "all star" or "congrats." Another item laying out on my desk (large Making Memories red alpha stickers) switched my thinking to "way to go." It was a little different than my "normal" style - but a quick, fun way to squeeze in a little creativity - and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

wedding wishes
My final page for the Two Peas Wedding Class. Inspired by alexandra s.m.'s POUR RETROUVER LE SOURIRE layout. I scanned and cropped small sections of a few of my favorite cards we received for our wedding.
